Children’s services

Shaping the whole continuum of need

Here at IPC our consultancy, applied research, evaluation and skills development activities as well as our publications relate to all aspects of the continuum of need for children and families.

Early help to remedial intervention

We work with organisations and partnerships to explore the sufficiency of early help for families facing difficult times through to specialist social care services, including child in need, child protection, and services for looked after children and care leavers. We're also looking at how these different parts of the continuum relate to and support each other to ensure that children and families are getting the right help at the right time.

Examples of our work

  • We have been commissioned by Welsh Government to evaluate outcomes for all children with a Care Order in a 12 month period 2012-13
  • We are conducting several ‘end to end’ reviews of children’s social care services for local authorities in England and Wales – looking at the sufficiency of these services from the front door through to support for looked after or adopted children
  • We are an independent evaluation partner for the Department for Education’s Innovation Programme, for both Wave I and II evaluating 6 sites
  • We are conducting an in-depth evaluation of therapeutic adoption support services in the South West of England
  • We have been commissioned to provide an evaluation of an innovative wrap around family support service for Family Action – working across 22 local authorities to provide targeted perinatal, domestic abuse and other forms of support to vulnerable families
  • We have just completed a project to review the adequacy of adoption support commissioned across a large consortium of local authorities
  • We have recently completed a project to review and support the continued personalisation of services for children with disabilities and their families including the development of a fair access tool
