Evaluation of support for parents with learning disabilities
National Evaluation about Parents with Learning Disabilities involved with Children's Social Care Services
IPC has been commissioned by Welsh Government to carry out research:
- To establish the extent to which parents with a learning disability in Wales are involved with / in receipt of Children’s Social Care Services (including parents of children involved in care proceedings and/or removed from their parents’ direct care).
- To gain a multi-perspective understanding of the factors driving patterns of involvement of parents with a learning disability with Children’s Social Care Services – including risk assessment/management and decision making by local authorities or the judiciary.
- To evaluate the quality and impact of any support received by families as a result of their involvement with Children's Social Care Services.
The research is being conducted between November 2018 and April 2019 and the findings and recommendations from the project will inform the ongoing development programme of the Improving Outcomes for Children Ministerial Advisory Group and the Learning Disability Advisory Group Transformation Programme which is looking at strengthening learning disability services more broadly across Wales.
