Aspirant Middle Manager Programme (AMMP)

Cohort 3 of the Aspirant Middle Manager Programme (AMMP) for aspiring managers in social care

ADSS Cymru and Social Care Wales, in partnership with the Institute of Public Care at Oxford Brookes University, are pleased to be promoting Cohort 3 of the Aspirant Middle Manager Programme (AMMP) for aspiring managers in social care.

The Aspirant Middle Manager Programme (AMMP) is about filling an identified ‘step up’ to middle management gap between the current Team Manager and Middle Manager Development Programmes.

The purpose of the programme is to support team managers, or equivalent, to safely ‘test the middle management water’ as to whether they would want to be guided and supported into applying for a middle management role such as a Service Manager, Principal Officer, Operational, Locality or Group Manager. Aspirants are not required to have previously completed the Team Manager Development Programme, but they should have at least three years post qualifying experience, including some level of management experience, and have the support of their employing organisation.

What does the programme offer?

There will be a combination of (virtual) group sessions and individual support:

  • Aspirants will work with their employer and the Institute of Public Care to set Learning Objectives and plan how to gain greater exposure to middle management experiences.
  • Aspirants will take part in four half-day (9.30am-1pm) Development Support Sessions planned for:
    • Thursday 10th October 2024
    • Thursday 12th December 2024
    • Thursday 13th February 2025
    • Thursday 10th April 2025
  • Aspirants will receive 4 Mentoring Sessions from a senior manager in another local authority to support and guide them about what it means to be a middle manager
  • Aspirants will have the opportunity to participate in a peer learning network during the programme and beyond.

"Good reflective programme for helping to understand dilemmas in middle management and helping to decide if this is the type of role for my future."
