Peter has an extensive track record of work for care providers, including work on safeguarding, contingency planning and investigations, as well as operational management. He has wide ranging knowledge of all parts of the adult social care provider sector.

Peter started out as a support worker, supporting people with learning disabilities who were moving out of long stay hospitals in the late 1980s. He then worked as a home manager and area manager before moving to manage hospital resettlement in Birmingham. There he oversaw the successful closure of an old long stay hospital and commissioned a wide range of replacement NHS and care services in the community.

From 1999 to 2015, Peter worked for the national charity Sense, supporting deafblind people and others with complex needs. As operations director from 2009 he managed services for children, adults and older adults across England, Wales and Northern Ireland, with around 2,000 staff across 100 service locations. The regulated services Peter was responsible for in England had one of the best national CQC profiles for a large provider.

Since 2015, Peter has worked independently, undertaking a wide range of work for local, regional and national organisations. He has provided direct support to care organisations in areas including safeguarding, care quality, governance and business continuity. He has also managed national sector level programmes, funded by the Department of Health and Social Care and by NHSX, and spent a number of years as a trustee of the charity Revitalise.
