'Owning up to care' - A guide to the ownership and funding models of care organisations

Report | January 2013

This paper has been prepared as one of a series of documents for the Department of Health programme Developing Care Markets for Quality and Choice.

It is designed to offer a factual guide to the different legal models of ownership of care providers and some insight into the ways in which companies and organisations may be funded.

The paper is designed to help local authorities understand the range of organisational forms that are available, which in turn provides a context for strategic discussions with providers about their future plans, investment and innovation. It comprises four different elements:

- Different types of legal entities
- Ways in which different organisations may be funded and financed
- Where to find further information about organisations
- The future role for local authorities in overseeing their local care market
