Children's Commissioning Course

We've developed a version of our course specifically for commissioners of children's services

Our popular commissioning course supports commissioners in health and social care organisations to implement the national agenda and develop good commissioning practice. It will enable you to understand the commissioning process and commission value-for-money services.

There will be a combination of group sessions and independent learning activities. You will need to be able to commit to eight half day learning sessions online, supported by some independent study.

There is then an optional accredited part of the programme, which gives you the opportunity to complete an assignment derived from a work-based commissioning related project. By completing the accredited part of the programme, you will gain a Postgraduate Certificate in Commissioning and Purchasing, worth 20 Masters-level CATS points. The project you undertake will give you the opportunity to apply theory and best practice to a live piece of commissioning work and you will get ongoing support through three group sessions and two individual online tutorials.

The next course for children's services commissioners will be online on:

  • January and February 2024 (note this course is full)
  • Spring cohort - 23, 24, 30 April and 1, 7, 8, 14,15 May 2024 (note this course is full)

The Children's Services April 2024 course is now fully booked. If you would like to be placed on our waiting list and notified of future course dates, please email ipc_courses@brookes.ac.uk with the subject line: Children's Services Waiting List.

Accreditation

You can choose to accredit your learning from this short course and gain a certificate of credit from Oxford Brookes University, which equates to 20 credits at postgraduate level 7. To do this you will need to attend additional online sessions and complete an assessed work-based project. There is an additional fee of £540 per person for accreditation. Download the student handbook below for more details.
