Prioritisation in Commissioning

Introduction

How do you prioritise commissioning projects when everything seems to be important? With commissioning capacity stretched and increasing pressures on budgets, the workforce and demand across both adults and children’s services, focusing effort on the right projects has never been more important.

IPC worked with the West Wales Care Partnership to produce a comprehensive Market Stability Report and then design a prioritisation tool to help decide which projects to invest in to implement it.

This webinar will provide opportunities to discuss how pressures on the health and care system are currently impacting our commissioning practice, and consider tools and support in how we can prioritise, supporting a planned and strategic approach to our commissioning roles and activities.

The workshop will be delivered by John Wilkinson, Jonathan Gardam and Caroline Dowson of the Institute of Public Care (IPC), alongside guest speaker Kevin Pett Programme and Change Manager at the West Wales Care Partnership.

Attendees

The workshop is for IPC Alumni Network members only and will be relevant for health and social care colleagues who have an interest in contributing to and hearing from others in high pressure commissioning roles and organisations seeking to return to a planned and strategic way of working post-pandemic.

Agenda

This workshop will consider current commissioning practice across the country, and how this has been impacted by austerity, challenges in health and care delivery (escalated by growing demand, reduced resources and recruitment and retention issues), and influenced by the aftermath of the COVID 19 pandemic. We will consider the skills and tools available to support commissioners to prioritise investments in a planned and strategic way. West Wales Partnership will share their experiences designing and embedding a Prioritisation Tool to support this, and attendees will be asked to share their experiences and thoughts, the presentations and their current practice.

Workshop format

The workshop will be delivered online and will feature a blend of presentations and smaller group discussions to enable participation by all delegates.
