Adults Care Purchasing and Brokerage

Course Overview

The Institute of Public Care (IPC) at Oxford Brookes University, in collaboration with the Commissioning Alliance, proudly presents a specialised short course designed for social care professionals involved in adult care placement, brokerage, or purchasing roles. The Adults Care Purchasing and Brokerage course equips participants with the skills and knowledge needed to effectively manage and broker care placements, ensuring that services are tailored to meet the needs of adults in diverse care settings. Participants will gain an understanding of the legal, regulatory, and quality frameworks that guide adult social care, as well as the practical tools to deliver high-quality, cost-effective services.

Booking and Cost

The course fee is £500 per person, with a discounted rate of £400 available for Commissioning Alliance Members.

The dates for the Certificate in Care Purchasing and Brokerage Adults’ Services to be held in 2025 are listed below. To confirm a place, please complete the appropriate online booking form. The links are against the relevant course dates.

Course Content and Format

This short course is delivered in four half-day online sessions, providing a flexible learning environment for professionals in adults’ care services. The course covers the following key areas:

  • Context and Legislation: Understand the legal and regulatory frameworks governing social care.
  • Demand and Supply: Analyse the dynamics of care demand and the supply landscape.
  • Commissioning Role: Explore your role within the commissioning cycle.
  • Managing Referrals: Develop strategies for handling and challenging care referrals.
  • Purchasing and Procurement: Master techniques to secure high-quality, cost-effective services.
  • Negotiation and Accountability: Enhance negotiation skills and accountability in provider relationships.
  • Contract Management: Gain insights into contract management and the importance of data collection.
  • Best Practices: Share and learn best practices and practical tips with industry experts.

Accreditation

Participants can opt for accreditation, earning an award from Oxford Brookes University worth 10 CATS credits at the undergraduate level. Accredited learning supports your Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and provides formal recognition of your expertise in care purchasing and brokerage. The accreditation process involves attending additional support sessions and completing an assessed work-based project. There is an additional fee of £300 per person for accreditation.
