Finding enough homes for children in care of the right type, and in the right places, is recognised as a major challenge across the United Kingdom. Placement insufficiency affects children’s wellbeing and safety and is financially unsustainable.
The South West Sufficiency Project is a partnership between 15 councils in the South West of England, with social care responsibilities. It is supported by Department for Education (DfE) funding and overseen by a Regional Project Board.
The South West Sufficiency Project is hosted by South Gloucestershire Council, and IPC was commissioned to produce an up-to-date regional picture of demand and supply of children’s placements to inform action and tackle challenges which are best addressed collectively by local authorities. The final publication can be accessed here.
This event is aimed at Commissioners and strategic leads in Children’s Services with responsibility for Sufficiency of Children’s Services provision, primarily around children in care. It will be of particular interest to regional consortia and those seeking to develop Regional Sufficiency Strategies as part of the government’s roll-out of Regional Care Co-Operatives (RCCs).
This webinar will explore the key findings from the supply and demand analysis, how commissioners are using this intelligence in practice, and the actions being taken across the South West to strengthen future sufficiency. Attendees will also gain insight into how the strategy was developed, including the data sources and analytical approach used to generate robust, meaningful intelligence that informed the regional strategy.
