Earlier this year IPC was delighted to engage with people working within social care in Wales from the global majority to explore how their career progression could be better supported. IPC worked on behalf of Social Care Wales, and in alignment with – the Welsh Government’s Anti-racist Wales Action Plan’ – and we were privileged to be welcomed into communities. We collectively considered enablers and barriers to progression within the wider social care arena.
Conclusions included mentoring from those within the global majority in Wales and beyond, coaching, networking, and workshops. Most importantly, IPC heard that any further offer by the sector in Wales should both seek to provide an experience that can assist participants to effectively and sustainably develop their leadership ability into tangible leadership roles, but also influence the development of more inclusive culture within the social care sector as a whole.
