Leading Commissioning with Confidence

A new national leadership programme for current and future aspiring leaders in adult social care commissioning

Course Overview

This programme has been developed in collaboration with Directors and Assistant Directors of Adult Services, as well as feedback from experienced commissioning managers. It is underpinned by our knowledge and experience of delivering both accredited commissioning and leadership programmes across the country for over 20 years. The programme will support aspiring leaders in adult social care commissioning to develop the key skills, competencies and knowledge to lead good strategic commissioning practice in an increasingly complex and political environment.

Programme benefits:

  • Organisational succession planning. By developing in house leadership talent, the programme will help adult social care directorates grow their own future strategic leaders.
  • Enhance strategic leadership capability. Participants will gain the confidence and skills needed to lead complex commissioning projects, influence system-wide change, and operate effectively at a senior level.
  • Work effectively in political and multi-agency environments. Participants will learn how to navigate political contexts, collaborate across integrated systems of care, and build strong partnerships.
  • Learn from peers across the country. There will be regular opportunities to connect with other experienced commissioners facing similar challenges to share insights, problem-solve together, and develop practical solutions.

Participants

This programme is aimed at experienced commissioners who are looking to progress into leadership roles such as directors and assistant directors of commissioning. Applicants will already have core commissioning skills and are likely to have undertaken accredited commissioning training programmes in the past. To be eligible for this programme, participants will be working as a senior, strategic commissioner within adult social care or an integrated post.

The programme fee is £1,950 per person. If you would like to have an informal conversation about what the programme entails, please reach out to us at ipc_courses@brookes.ac.uk or call 01865 951902.
