In 2021, IPC supported Social Care Wales to prepare content for a Social Work Workforce Plan by undertaking an intensive programme of online workshops, interviews and surveys. IPC consulted with a wide range of stakeholders including the social work workforce, professional bodies, trade unions and employers and drafted a workforce plan that addressed key priorities for Social Care Wales. This included the need to support the development of specialist skills, maintain capacity in the workforce and support their well-being and mental health.
As a result of IPC’s direct engagement with stakeholders, the feedback has featured strongly in each of the ambitions of the Plan as a set of “I” and “We” statements. Going forward, Social Care Wales will develop a new workforce survey that will include questions to monitor the achievement of both the “I” and “We” statements.
