Katy Burch, Assistant Director at IPC, delivered the ExChange Wales annual adoption lecture on 11 January 2022. The lecture explored the UK policy and research context for, and recent innovations in, adoption support. It has potential relevance to both adopted and other care experienced children & their parents and carers, including the learning from COVID. It identified the ongoing challenges for support, whether provided regionally or locally by social workers, health professionals or others, or by single agency or multi-agency teams.

Speaker: Katy Burch, Assistant Director, IPC is a leading UK researcher of support for children, young people and families affected by adoption and care. Katy has recently led 2 major UK studies exploring the impact of the Adoption Support Framework (Wales) and the Adoption Support Fund (England).
Background: ExChange Wales is a network of over 1500 individuals and organisations (mostly in Wales, but increasingly beyond) who have an interest in children’s social care comprising practitioners, academics and experts by experience. They are based in CASCADE Research Centre at Cardiff University and are funded by the Welsh Government to deliver resources and events in this area of work. Since the pandemic all events have been held online via Zoom and most are available as recordings on their YouTube channel.
