This rapid research review has been prepared to inform the DfE-funded Innovation Programme in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight but it is of interest more broadly to all local authority children`s services departments working with vulnerable children and young people.
With reference to existing findings from research, government-commissioned reviews and best practice guidance, the review explores:
- The context including national policy drivers for the increased use of volunteers within family support – including for families in contact with social care services
- What is known about the use of volunteers in family support interventions generally
- What makes for effective volunteer input into social care-led interventions with families
- To what extent have these services proven to be cost-effective to date
