Rhondda Cynon Taf (RCT) Local Authority Transformation Programme ‘My Day My Way’

Rhondda Cynon Taf (RCT) Local Authority and IPC work together

See the YouTube video ‘My day, My way’ hereA wonderful example of engagement by Rhondda Cynon Taf (RCT) Local Authority and Partners who are actively including people with a learning disability and their families to identify what is important to them in their day, evening and weekend.

IPC worked with the Director of Adult Social Care in RCT, Neil Elliot and his senior lead Alex Beckham to create a Transformational Programme for Learning Disability services. This included the development of a Virtual Transformation Team including RCT, IPC and wider partners.

A strength-based culture amongst the adult social care workforce was created, embracing coaching and mentoring for the senior leadership team and the development of workforce learning sets. IPC delivered the training plan.

The transformation programme covered:

  • the creation of the ‘RCT Transformers’ co-production citizen panel
  • the recruitment of a paid post for a person with ‘lived experience’ as the chair of the Learning Disability Governance Partnership board to oversee delivery.

Neil Elliot, Director of Adult Social Care at RCT said:

“The IPC Team have proved to be an invaluable consultative resource for adult services over the past 18 months providing a unique approach and direction to our learning disability transformation programme. IPC have provided professional insight and co-designed services to enhance our current offer and inform future commissioning intentions. As part of the transformation, we have already seen a positive change in culture and approach within the Council and with our partners and, most importantly, it has strengthened our relationships with people with a learning disability, their parents, and carers. The IPC Team come highly recommended.”
